AI is booming right now, however there is one major hitch, the fact that it has to be connected to the internet to get a response. However, Layla Ai seeks to change that for 14.99 USD you can access an Ai chatbot (with multiple personalities) that is completely private and offline. So does it fulfill its promise? Yesish
Layla Ai does work offline, it does generate a response, and it does have multiple personalities which you can choose, but it is very slow. I have a pretty decent flagship phone, the Galaxy S22+ 5G, with 8GB of RAM and 128 GB or storage, and thus I tested it on the best model (there is an option to speed it up but it required at least 9GB or RAM)
There are three models on the application, one for lower-end hardware so the responses are not as good, one that blends good responses with speed, and the best of the best. You can try to change the speed in the settings but it is glitchy and still slow. However, when it does get responses they are pretty decent. I did not try the other personalities and stayed inside the normal chatbot. Even inside of that one when I sped up my phone it still got how and had a slow response time.
In my opinion, the price is too high, however, the application does what it says it will do, and it gives reasons for manufacturers to improve. Too often we see speed increase in commercials without noticing them in real life. It is a hefty (almost 4GB) application that I hope to see improve, maybe by using AI cores in newer chips other than the CPU.
