For teens...and most adults really
A small but dedicated minority of teens, at least in high school, use MacBooks over the more popular Windows and Chrome OS-based alternatives. Most of the users that have a MacBook have an iPhone. In media, we see Macs used as the computer of choice by the upper-middle-class kids, particularly in the 2008 movie The Clique PG-L (very early iPhone because filming would have started earlier in 2007/8).
And yet, when we see the kids in the movie, they use an IM application, a video chat application, and maybe some text editing. And that's it. And you may say, that's a movie, people don't do that in 2024, right? It's different now... nope.
Macs can run some iPhone applications, and while the average teen might not do that, yet they do use a few key applications... applications that are blown-up iPhone versions.
First, to access the key websites of TikTok and Instagram, they use Safari. Maybe some browser based apps like Canva. Maybe do a bit of light gaming as well on 2007-esque websites that require zero processing power. Of course, they have to keep up with the latest TV shows, so either they break the law and use scammed illegal websites to watch it, or they will use legitimate streaming services websites or their respective applications. The applications, which are basically wrapper browsers. For more intensive gaming, Roblox... a phone app essentially, is used.
Of course, Macs have iMessage enabled on them, so chatting will be handled there as well as FaceTiming. Unfortunately, teens don't run spy agencies as much as they should, so sensitive information is not stored in the SSD. And while text editing is done sometimes, that is capable on a phone as well (this was typed in Samsung Notes)... and most of it is done in Google docs anyway. Unfortunately, people just have an aversion to typing on a phone.
Anyway, with the iPhone mirroring coming to Macs, it's over. The top apps of IG, TikTok, and notes (which is stupid, your PC can take notes) will be used. And the superpowered Mac will once again be used as a measly (yet still overpowerd and overpriced) phone.
