How to Export Specific Texts as a File on an Android Phone

TheTechBoy, November 25, 2024

It’s harder than you might think. Exporting all your texts
is easy, but exporting specific text threads is much more complicated.

Textra Share Screen

While searching for a solution
to export texts on an Android phone, I stumbled upon a tip from Reddit—the
cesspool of idiots, but even a cesspool can be useful sometimes. Unfortunately,
because Google is stupid, they did not place this in their, essentially
mandated texting application. (DOJ ya wanna break this up orrr…)

               You
have to use the application Textra. Download Textra from the Play Store
and set it as your default SMS app.

  1. Tap on
the text thread you want to export.
  2. Tap
the arrow icon in the top right, then click the three-dot menu icon.
  3. Select
    Share and choose Email.

Now, here’s where it gets tricky. To complete this process,
you’ll need a third-party file manager. The ones that worked for me are File
Manager +
, Total Commander, and File Xplore. For this
example, I’ll use File Manager +.

  1. Open File
    Manager +
and go to the Download folder.
  2. At the
bottom of the screen, you’ll see a floppy disk-shaped save icon. Tap it to
save the text thread to your phone’s download folder.

Finally, open your file manager
and find the new text file. When you open it, you’ll see the timestamps,
senders, and messages in a typewriter-like font. So, whether you need this for
a legal case, a spy mission, or even to train an AI model, this is how you do
it.

God bless, and Tech Talk To You Later!!!
