How to Track and Export Your Route with GPS Waypoints and GPX Viewer Apps

      Sometimes you may want to track your route and export it to view on a map later. Perhaps you’re a spy guiding agents to a secret base, a student being chased through the woods behind your school, or simply tracking how many miles you’ve run. To do this, download the GPS Waypoints and GPX Viewer mobile apps.

1. Open GPS Waypoints and click “Start Path.” Then, select the option to “Add Points Automatically.”

2. The app will default to tracking your location every 10 seconds, which works well for most cases. For more precision, decrease the interval; for less detail and to save space, increase it.

3. When you’re satisfied, click “OK.” You can then continue your run, mission, or activity. To stop tracking, reopen the app, click “Finish Path,” and then “Save.”

4. You’ll be taken to a screen where you can export the path. Select the desired path, click the share button, toggle on “GPX File,” and click “Export.”

The file will be saved to your device’s file manager. Navigate there, select the file, and open it in GPX Viewer. If you have a Samsung phone, you can also import it as a workout in Samsung Health. In GPX Viewer, you’ll see the route you traveled. Tapping the bluish line displays the elevation at that point, and you can drag the chart to view the elevation at specific locations.

Both apps work offline, though GPX Viewer may attempt to redirect you to its “home” screen every 5 seconds if you don’t interact with the chart unless you freeze it.
