In the battle between Samsung and Google apps, Samsung usually has the most features. Samsung Files can connect to network shares, Samsung Camera has some interesting modes, and Samsung Gallery has the better AI suite. However, this battle may be different.
Samsung Contacts is the default contact manager application on Samsung phones; however, you can install Google Contacts if you would like. Both show contacts alphabetically and allow you to save them to your device.
Google Contacts, upon launch, displays the contacts, but to call or text them you must tap the contact, then tap the button. However, Samsung Contacts lets you swipe left to call and right to message, making for faster use. Secondly, when touching a contact that only has an email address, Samsung allows you to text them while Google does not.

So far, Samsung is ahead and also takes the lead when adding contacts, allowing you to save to Samsung, Google, local, and SIM card accounts while Google does not allow you to save to the SIM card. Google does strike back by showing the connection applications when you tap a contact.
For instance, if you text a contact in Google Messages and WhatsApp, it will show there as well. (Samsung has this option called "show third-party options," but it's hidden.) Also, changing the specific ringtone in Google Contacts is much more straightforward and even has a dedicated page for that.
Google Contacts also allows you to send specific contacts straight to voicemail.
Samsung makes sharing your contacts much easier by allowing you to create a contact QR code for yourself and allowing you to share other people's contacts as a VCF, QR code, or text.
Unfortunately, all these great features are somewhat hidden and not as straightforward as the Google Contacts application, so while Samsung takes the win at 5–3, unless you are a contacts power user, I would recommend having both installed.
