Samsung Unveils the Galaxy XR TheTechBoy, October 22, 2025 It’s here!! The long-awaited competitor to Apple’s Vision Pro was unveiled by Samsung yesterday and should be in the hands of consumers on the 31st. This is the first look at the Samsung Galaxy XR. The Galaxy XR runs Android XR with Gemini built in. According to Sameer Samat, President of Android Ecosystem at Google, “Android XR is the first Android platform built entirely for the Gemini era, and we are incredibly excited to take a significant leap forward today with the launch of Galaxy XR.” The headset has a six-microphone array allowing you to use Gemini to navigate Google Maps in a 3D immersive view and search for YouTube videos. Galaxy XR supports 3D Photo & video capture with a 6.5 MP camera and supports passthrough so you ca circle to search in real life. However, the system is not all AI. It is still Android under the hood and can run applications from the Play Store, meaning your favorite apps should still work. Some of the applications included with purchase are a few games including NFL Pro Era, a VR football game, Google AI Pro for 12 months, and NBA League Pass, which will allow you to watch games on the 3,552 x 3,840, 27 million pixel Micro-OLED display (6.3-micron pixel pitch, 95% DCI-P3). Refresh rates: 60 Hz, 72 Hz (default), 90 Hz (up to, upon service request). Field of view: 109 degrees horizontal and 100 degrees vertical. You can pair it as an external monitor to your PC Under the hood it runs the Snapdragon® XR2+ Gen 2 Platform with 256 GB of storage and 16 GB of RAM, which I find interesting. Apparently the device can last about 2 hours when off a charge and weighs 1.2 lbs, and the separate battery weighs 0.67 lbs (stop it teens). You get all of this for the ‘low’ price of $1,799.
