The iPhone 17e represents Apple’s latest attempt to deliver a capable smartphone at a more accessible price point, with the device officially announced on March 2, 2026. Starting at $599 for the 256GB model, it matches the entry price of its predecessor while doubling the base storage from 128GB, which provides users with noticeably more room for photos, videos, apps, and other files right out of the box. The design sticks to a familiar 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display housed in an aerospace-grade aluminum frame that carries an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. Apple has upgraded the front protection to Ceramic Shield 2, which the company claims delivers three times better scratch resistance than the previous version along with reduced glare for improved outdoor visibility. Available colors include black, white, and a new soft pink, each finished with a matte texture. Portrait mode has received refinements that include subject recognition for people, dogs, and cats, along with the ability to adjust focus and depth after the photo is taken. Low-light performance improves with enhanced Night mode, and video recording reaches 4K at sixty frames per second in Dolby Vision, complete with Spatial Audio capture and wind noise reduction features.
The phone launches with iOS 26, which introduces a refreshed Liquid Glass interface alongside expanded Apple Intelligence capabilities such as Live Translation across messaging and calls, on-screen Visual Intelligence for analyzing displayed content, Call Screening for unknown numbers, and Hold Assist during phone waits. Satellite-based features remain included, covering Emergency SOS, Messages, Roadside Assistance, and location sharing via Find My when outside of cellular or Wi-Fi range, with Crash Detection also carried over for automatic emergency calls after severe vehicle impacts.
Sustainability receives attention through the use of thirty percent recycled content overall, including eighty-five percent recycled aluminum in the enclosure and one hundred percent recycled cobalt in the battery, combined with manufacturing that incorporates fifty-five percent renewable energy across the supply chain and fully fiber-based recyclable packaging. These elements align with Apple’s broader goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.
Trade-in programs and carrier promotions can lower the effective cost, with credits reaching as high as $599 depending on the device being exchanged and the provider involved. New MagSafe-compatible cases in silicone and clear variants are priced at forty-nine dollars each to match the phone’s color options.
