Emeet Pixy 4k Review: Holy Lag

This is a ‘smart’ 4K webcam that has a few problems. I got this webcam from Amazon for around 90 dollars, but sometimes you can find discounts for it hovering around 80-ish dollars. For this price, you get a 4K webcam that has the ability to move and swivel, as well as zoom in.

However, this functionality is only allowed if you use the client application, Emeet Studio. This allows you to control the camera from the computer, and by pushing a button in the software, it turns it into a ‘virtual camera’ that can be used in other software.

Technically, you can use the camera as a USB camera without the software, but you lose the features that are included, such as brightness and focus adjustment, quality control, and moving the camera. However, you gain one major improvement: speed.

I’ve been using the Emeet Puixy camera for a few weeks (featured in my podcast streams), and you can notice that while the quality is decent, the lag is INSANE when using the software. It’s like a few half-seconds for the faces to catch up with the sound (via external USB mic). Even with the (not very good) internal mic, you can see on the camera preview that there is lag, visible lag. The software freezes often, and despite all this, has no bokeh built-in. No background blur or greenscreen, something StreamYard and Zoom have had for years.

Since the camera is ‘AI,’ it can also track you as you move around the room using the included software. The quality is good enough (check out the Pulse podcast for samples). God bless, Tech Talk To You Later!!
