Apple ships iOS 26.5 release candidate ahead of mid-May launch

Apple is gearing up for its next major software update, releasing Release Candidate builds of iOS 26.5, iPadOS 26.5, macOS Tahoe 26.5, and more on Monday. The RC stage typically signals that a public rollout is right around the corner, with a launch expected as early as May 11.

The headline feature in iOS 26.5 is end-to-end encrypted RCS messaging between iPhone and Android users. This marks a major step forward in cross-platform communication, finally closing a long-standing security gap and bringing stronger privacy protections to messages outside Apple’s iMessage ecosystem.
Beyond messaging, Apple is adding “Suggested Places” in Maps, offering users smarter recommendations based on trends and activity. The update also introduces new App Store subscription options designed to make long-term plans more affordable, along with expanded Live Activities support for third-party accessories in the European Union.

With a mix of security improvements and feature upgrades, iOS 26.5 is shaping up to be a meaningful update ahead of Apple’s next major software cycle. God bless and Tech Talk To You Later!!
