Instagram Launches
People love to criticize social media as nothing more than a massive time-waster. While there’s certainly truth to the endless-scroll trap, the complaint often ignores a bigger issue: social platforms are overflowing with valuable content—if only you could actually find it. The internet has a persistent search problem, but Instagram has quietly solved a big piece of it with one of its most underrated features.

How It Works
Open Instagram and tap the search bar at the top. Just below it, you’ll see a plus (+) button. Tap that, then type in whatever topic or interest you want to explore.
Want entertainment? Search “Disney” or “movie clips” and watch your feed instantly shift to show relevant videos and accounts. Want to learn? Type “stock market,” “investing,” “history,” “current events,” “personal finance,” or any subject that interests you. Instagram will curate a dedicated stream of content around that topic. Best of all, these custom feeds are saved as tabs at the top of your home screen. You can easily switch between multiple curated streams your normal For You feed, Disney clips, investing content, history lessons, and more without constantly resetting your algorithm.

Taking Back Control
For far too long, users have complained they have no real control over what appears in their feeds. Meta has now delivered a practical solution, and it uses AI in one of the most genuinely useful ways I’ve seen on social media. Instead of passively letting the algorithm decide everything, you’re actively telling it what matters to you. This turns Instagram from a pure entertainment dopamine machine into a customizable learning and discovery tool.
Of course, some critics will immediately dismiss it because it involves AI. But this is exactly how AI should be used: to help users cut through noise and surface content that adds real value.
Social Media Can Be Useful
This feature is a strong reminder that social media is far more than just self-absorbed content streams and influencer drama. When used intentionally, platforms like Instagram can deliver education, inspiration, and entertainment tailored exactly to what you want. Banning or overly restricting these tools would be a mistake. The better approach is teaching people how to use them wisely—and celebrating features that give users more power and choice.
Instagram’s new search-plus system isn’t flashy, but it might be one of the most important quality-of-life upgrades social media has seen in years. Give it a try and build your own custom knowledge feeds. You might be surprised how useful your phone can become. God bless and Tech Talk To You Later!!!
