Instagram rolls out Snapchat Esque Feature
Instagram has rolled out a new feature called Instants, a private photo‑sharing format that lets users send unedited, disappearing images directly to Close Friends or mutual followers in direct messages. The company says Instants is designed to encourage more casual, “in‑the‑moment” sharing, moving away from the highly curated feed and Stories.

What Instants Does Instants lets you snap photos using Instagram’s in‑app camera (you can’t upload from your gallery), add a caption, and share them with selected friends; the photos then disappear after they’re viewed or after 24 hours. Recipients can react with emojis, reply in DMs, or send an Instant back, creating a quick back‑and‑forth photo conversation. Instagram notes that Instants are not editable before sharing, so users can’t crop, filter, or retouch the image—Meta says this is meant to foster more authentic, spontaneous content. The feature appears in the inbox as a small stack of photos in the bottom right‑hand corner of the DM screen, and can also be accessed via a standalone Instants app currently rolling out in select countries.
Meta emphasizes that Instants are built with privacy and safety in mind: users can’t screenshot or record the photos, and the service does not allow uploads from the camera roll by design. Each Instant is stored in a private archive accessible only to the sender for about a year, and that archive can later be compiled into a recap for posting to Instagram Stories if desired.
UMM…..we already have an application for this the Great Application of Snapchat and the BeReal application. Streamer Zay unfiltered commented that he ‘hated’ the feature. God bless and Tech Talk To You Later!!
